CARMEN 2012 Transforming NCD Declarations to Actions

CARMEN is an initiative of the Pan American Health Organization and aims to improve the health status of the populations in the Americas by reducing risk factors associated with Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs). This is attained through the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, social mobilization and community-based interventions, epidemiological surveillance of NCD risk conditions, and preventive health-care services.To provide a forum for sharing, learning, and collaborating among the countries of the Americas and partner organizations to reduce the burden of chronic diseases, their risk factors, and underlying determinants.

The speakers will share their views on how to will go about transforming the proposed NCD declarations into actions. They will engage in dialogue regarding the progress, opportunities and challenges involved with advancing NCD policies and programs in the Region. Throughout the day, speakers will showcase successful initiatives, tools and resources that can support countries in their NCD policies and programs as well as discuss a proposal for an updated NCD Regional Strategy and Plan of Action.
